Securing Your Future

Succession Strategies

Our Succession Planning Process

We help you take control of your future.  The only constant in life is change. We can allow ourselves to be victims of change, or choose to be masters of it. As a business owner, executive, or professional, you've probably dealt with change effectively in your career. But have you fully considered the answers to these significant and potentially inevitable questions?

  • What would you like to do if you weren't working?
  • How long will you live?
  • Can you afford to retire?
  • What would happen to your business if you became permanently disabled or died unexpectedly?

If you are a business or professional practice owner we suggest that you devise a plan for the last third of your life.  A personal transition advisor can assist with this process.  We have often referred people to Jack Beauregard for help with this process.  Jack's contact information can be found in the Additional Resources tab.  Whatever decision you make, it's important to make preparations well in advance. We ask a wealth strategist to join the discussion, since your choice of what's next is likely to cost money and a funding source must be identified.

If you are a potential buyer, we help analyze the cash flow of the business or professional practice that you are considering to determine whether the entire purchase price can be financed and the best structure for the acquisition.  We have access to lenders who may be willing and able to lend a substantial portion or all of the purchase price.

Whether you are a buyer or a seller, once you have figured out what's next, how do you afford it? Integrated into our succession planning process is Harbor Wealth Strategies, which provides comprehensive financial planning services. Harbor Wealth Strategies' professional advisors develop and implement strategies to help you achieve your financial objectives. Harbor Wealth Strategies is available as a resource to show you ways to maximize the value of the business or professional practice and in many cases increase cash flow.

Finally, we know that usually the seller is not under any obligation to sell and the buyer is not under any obligation to buy so a transaction will only close if it makes sense for both the buyer and seller.  We know how to transition businesses structurally and financially.  Our transactional approach maximizes the cash in the owner's pocket but at a price that will not cripple the buyer.  We'll help make the transition happen, not create obstacles to prevent it.
